Bubblemania

Blowing Bubbles
Kids love getting into this all-time favourite. Here’s what you’ll need:

Bubble Recipe
1 cup of water
3 Tbsp. dishwashing soap
2 Tbsp. Glycerin (available at most drug stores)
For best results, make your recipe and let it sit overnight before using.

Bubble Makers
You can use a host of items to create a display of magical bubbles. Have kids explore what they like to use for blowing the best bubbles ever!

  • straws

  • wire (or use pipe cleaners) – moms help shape this into a loop with a wand end

  • cut a hole through a plastic lid and poke a hole through the edge; then insert a popsicle stick to form a wand

  • draining spoon – choose one with lots of round holes to create a multi-bubble effect

Cleaning Supplies

Household Helpers

While the idea of housework doesn’t get kids jumping up for joy, getting them involved in an important family task will often pique their interest because it’s something mom or dad is also involved in. Things like chore day – whether inside or out - can be a surprising source of fun when it happens as a family where everyone has an assigned responsibility. Add on a reward element that everyone can look forward to, and this activity not only keeps kids active and busy, but also gets them feeling a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day! Anyone up for a well-deserved sweet treat?

Staying Afloat

For an educational type of activity, mom or dad can spend some fun discovery time with kids. This game involves exploring what items your child thinks will float and what will not. You can get your little one feeling challenged and really thinking by asking him to guess ahead of time, which items he thinks will float! Look for a variety of items made of different materials, like: soap, spoon, sponge, pencil, pail, foam cup, etc.

Fun with Food

Kids love to play with food so have them help you make all sorts of fun and tasty snacks. Start by getting out the Breton crackers and let your child choose what they want to top it off with. It’s a great way to stimulate their imaginations as they explore wacky and wonderful taste combinations.

Red Heart

What’s in a Shape?

Nurture kids’ love of painting in a way that allows them to be surprised. Painting by stamping out different shapes and patterns made by a variety of objects is a unique variation on this artistic pastime! All you need are washable paints, a sheet of paper, newspaper to keep things tidy and finally, an array of neat stamp-makers. Have your child select different household items like a sponge, paper towel, fruit half, etc. Take it outside and help your child choose exciting leaves, twigs or even rocks to see what their textures look like in paint!
