How to read our Food Labels

Allergen Statement

These statements aim to alert the consumer to the possible presence of an allergen in the food and to prevent the consumption of products labelled with a “may contain” statement.

Dare’s policy is to declare all allergens on the package, with the ingredient list. We also place a “may contain” warning on the package, where there is risk of unavoidable addition. We advise customers to read the label every time.

This is a list of the common food allergens that Dare lists:
  • Peanuts
  • Milk
  • Tree Nuts
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Eggs
  • Soy
  • Fish, crustaceans and shellfish
  • Wheat
  • Sulphites ≥ 10mg/kg
  • (almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios or walnuts)

Learn More about our Nutrient Content Claims

Health Canada has set criteria that must be met before a nutrient content claim can be made on a label or in an advertisement. Manufacturers have the choice of whether to provide this information or not. A nutrient content claim highlights a nutrition feature of a food. Claims such as trans fat free, low in saturated fat and no cholesterol can signal that a food has less or none of a certain component. Claims such as source of fibre and a source of omega-3 fatty acids can help identify foods that contain important amounts of that specific nutrient. Look for nutrient content claims on products to determine the health benefits of the product.
