DARE INTRODUCES NEW BEAR PAWS COOKIES, ALL NUT FREE, PEANUT FREE AND TRANS FAT FREE Toronto, ON - June 21, 2004 - Dare Foods is making snacks for summer camp and weekends at the cottage safer and healthier for children with the introduction of three new Bear Paws flavours. The three new "homemade" flavours, which include Banana Bread, Homestyle Oatmeal and Baked Apple, are all trans fat free and nut free/peanut free. Available just in time for summer and perfect for on-the-go snacking, the new soft Bear Paws cookies come individually wrapped with two cookies per package and six packages per box. This healthy, convenient cookie is guaranteed fresh whenever and wherever snacking takes place. "As a parent, I know how difficult it is to find healthy, safe and convenient snacks for your children, so I am always looking for nutritious products that my kids will enjoy," said Heather McTavish, Director of Marketing - Cookies, Dare Foods Limited. "It makes me proud that Dare is launching a product like Bear Paws that is not only made without trans fats, is individually wrapped, but is also safe for kids to share." To help parents identify this nut free/peanut free option, all Bear Paws packaging will have a nut free/peanut free logo on the front panel and on each individual cookie package. Nut free/peanut free signage will also appear on store shelves. Bear Paws have been a popular snack from Dare Foods in Quebec and Atlantic Canada for many years, but this is the first time they will be available in other regions. In addition to Banana Bread, Homestyle Oatmeal and Baked Apple, Bear Paws also come in Molasses and Chocolate Chip, still only available in Quebec and Atlantic Canada. Bear Paws are now available in 300g packages at grocery and mass merchandise stores across Canada with a suggested retail price of $3.49. Dare introduces products manufactured in their nut free/peanut free facilities Dare's Canadian bakery manufacturing plants in Kitchener, ON, St. Martine, QC and St. Lambert, QC are now nut free/peanut free facilities. To accomplish this, Dare implemented a very stringent quality control process, which involved moving the manufacture of all products containing nuts/peanuts to outside facilities and putting process and packaging equipment through an allergen cleaning procedure that is repeated regularly. It also required the commitment from Dare employees not to allow any nut/peanut products into the facility. |
