WHOLE GRAIN GOODNESS IN A TASTY SNACK
The name says it all with grainsfirst whole grain crackers

TORONTO, August 2, 2006 – To maintain a healthy balance, Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating recommends five to twelve servings of grains a day with an emphasis on whole grain. Nine out of ten Canadians agree that whole grains are important to a healthy diet but seven out of ten Canadians are not getting enough. To help consumers find an easy and delicious source of whole grains, Dare Foods Limited has introduced grainsfirst whole grain crackers, a new line of crackers baked with eleven premium whole grains and seeds, combining great taste with the natural goodness of whole grains. Only five crackers are equal to one whole grain serving of the recommended daily intake.

Canadians are trying to take control of their health, and with grainsfirst whole grain crackers, Dare is giving people an easy way to add more whole grains to their diet , says Kim Arrey, Registered Dietitian.
"The first step to a healthy lifestyle is making the right choices and choosing a snack packed with whole grains is a great start to a well balanced diet".

Dare has listened to Canadians' increasing desire to improve their eating habits in creating a snack that helps people work toward meeting the daily requirements of whole grain consumption. In addition, grainsfirst whole grain crackers are a source of fibre, low in saturated fat, and trans fat free.

What is a Whole Grain?
Whole grains are comprised of all three layers of the grain: the bran (or fibre-rich outer layer), the endosperm (middle part) and the germ (the nutrient-rich inner part). Whole grain foods give nutritional benefits of the entire grain – vitamins B and E, magnesium, iron, dietary fibre, and other natural plant compounds called phytochemicals. There are many grains that make up most of the world's grain supply, including wheat, rice, corn, barley, oats, and rye. Some simple ideas for incorporating whole grains into meals throughout your day include:

Breakfast: Multigrain pancakes
Lunch: Vegetable soup and grainsfirst crackers
Dinner: Whole Grain Pasta
Snack: Dare grainsfirst whole grain crackers with a favourite topping

Dare’s grainsfirst whole grain crackers are currently available in two delicious flavours: Spring Harvest, a light and savoury cracker with the nutty taste of soy and sunflower, and Autumn Harvest, a hearty cracker with the robust taste of black sesame and poppy seeds. Both flavours are available in grocery stores across Canada.

grainsfirst whole grain crackers, a brand of Dare Foods Ltd., are available in two convenient sizes; larger size for topping and a snack size for dipping or snacking alone. Coupons for a free box of grainsfirst whole grain crackers can be found on boxes of participating General Mills Cheerios and Fiber One whole grain cereals this winter.
