Product Development Technician

Contract, Permanent + Cambridge, ON

Dare Foods Limited, a leading Canadian manufacturer and distributor of quality biscuits, crackers, fine breads, confectionery products is seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual with a strong passion for food to join our Cambridge Research and Development team.

Product Development Technician

As a member of the Research and Development team, this individual will be required to provide support to on-going food development projects within the department; this role will work cross functionally across both cracker and cookie business sectors as needed, support other team members in plant trials and first production runs, as well as data collection, trend analysis and laboratory benchwork/trials.  This role reports to the senior manager of R&D and the position is located in the new Cambridge facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Research and Development Team to support our on-going food development projects, renovations, and innovation plans with excellence:
    • Assist in plant trials and first production run supervisions as required across our multiple North American facilities (both Canada and U.S.).
    • Assist and/or lead laboratory work such as small-scale trials or exploratory benchwork.
    • Assist in data collection, trend analysis and reporting on various on-going projects within the department.
    • Support new and on-going food development projects that require cross functional project work with other Dare Corporate Office departments.

 

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate has a degree in food science/engineering
  • 1-3 years of R&D experience in food manufacturing
  • Bakery and/or confection R&D experience an asset
  • Passion for food and product development
  • Ability to multi-task numerous projects and manage changing priorities
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, team environment and taking direction from peers as well as being resourceful when working autonomously.
  • Basic understanding of food safety and manufacturing practices
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and presentation skills
  • Proven analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Creative problem solver
  • Meets milestones on-time
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel)
  • Proven ability to learn and utilize relevant software systems such as; Genesis nutritional software; SAP experience a plus
  • This position will require periodic and project dependant travel (25%) to other Dare manufacturing or co-manufacturing sites within Canada and the US
